Do you ever have those days where, before you know it, it’s 4pm, and you’re left wondering where the last seven hours got to? Us too – in fact, for TeamRev, most days seem to fly past in the blink of an eye. Time flies when you’re having fun (and coffee…)! If you’d like to know how we fill our days here at TeamRev – and trust us, they fill up quickly – then look no further. Here’s a day in the life of one of our publicists, Kelly.
My alarm goes off in the early hours, but I’m a serial snoozer! After a quick shower and a vat of coffee, I set about getting ready for the day. I’ve always been of the mindset that if I look smart and presentable, then I’ll feel more put-together, so, no matter the day, I put on a full-face of makeup and a smart-casual outfit. After saying goodbye to my husband, grabbing my lunch – and a second coffee, for the road – I’m on my way.
Once at the office, I settle at my desk and put on my office slippers. Yes, we all don a pair of designated office slippers here at TeamRev. You know what they say: warm feet… better ideas?
As PR professionals, it’s important for us to keep our fingers on the pulse, so I always start my day by checking Twitter and the news sites. TeamRev then meet for one of our regular ‘catch-up meetings’, to go through our workload and plan our schedules for the morning. Our first task is always reporting coverage to our clients and monitoring the success of any recent PR outputs. We usually spend a minute or two having a natter about who watched what on Netflix the night before too!
Once coverage is reported, and I’ve finished coffee number two, I often move on to pitching news stories for our clients. In between calls and follow-up emails, I might get a query from a journalist, which needs to be dealt with then and there. That often means managing two or more tasks at any one time – thankfully, I’m very good at spinning plates! Cue another journalist getting back in touch, asking for more photos or an exclusive interview with a client. And all of this before my third cup of coffee! Mid-morning is usually when I schedule client update meetings, via phone or Skype. Whilst we’re in touch with our clients almost every day, this is often via email, so live contact is a great opportunity to talk through new ideas and concepts.
Before I know it, it’s midday. I always find the time to get some fresh air at lunchtime – the morning has been busy and it’s time to clear my head, ready for the afternoon. Our offices are slap bang in the middle of the Oxfordshire countryside, so it would be a shame not to enjoy our surroundings!
Once back at my desk, we have another team catch-up to discuss progress from the morning and our next steps for the afternoon. I might get stuck in with phone calls and client interviews, or I could be writing a press release or a case study. I can also often be found returning calls to editors, planning content for my various clients, interviewing service users or contacting suppliers.
We end every day with one final team meeting. This is often the best part of my day – not because it’s over, but because this is our opportunity to talk through our achievements. I always walk back to my car feeling like I’ve accomplished something, which I think is really important for anyone and gives me a lot of satisfaction. I often leave thinking about the next day… but that’s mainly just because I love my job! The only real worry I have is what I’m watching on Netflix when I get home.
